Public Works

Welcome to the City of Ottumwa Department of Public Works.    We are charged with the responsibility for building and maintaining our community's infrastructure.     We work very closely with the City Council to provide for Ottumwa's needs in the most efficient and cost effective manner possible.

Ottumwa faces a number of unique infrastructure challenges. Our city has a high number of aging streets that require maintenance, improvements or outright replacement. We continue to work toward complying with national standards for wastewater and stormwater management, in both the collection system and our treatment operations.

Balancing all of Ottumwa's needs with the dollars available can be daunting. Our elected officials make some very difficult funding decisions. The Public Works Department strives to make the most of every dollar invested, to be responsive to the customers we serve and, most importantly, build and maintain a safe community.
